Tinubu Appoints Professor Ogundipe as NUC Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) on a Monday, as announced by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President. Ogundipe succeeds the emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who resigned from the position less than a year ago.

The appointment follows Ogundipe's previous role as Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022 and his current position as Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer's University in Osun State. At 66 years old, Ogundipe brings a wealth of academic and administrative experience to the role.

He is recognized for his expertise in botany, particularly in molecular plant taxonomy, biosystematics, ethnobotany, cytogenetics, forensic botany, ecology, and conservation. He holds a PhD in Botany from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos.

In his new role, Ogundipe will oversee the regulatory functions of the Nigerian university system, with a focus on enhancing quality and access in the education sector.
