TMA Accuses Ugochinyere of Politicizing Refinery Probe

The Tinubu Media Ambassadors (TMA) accused Ikenga Ugochinyere, the Chairman of the Committee on Downstream Petroleum, of politicizing the refinery rehabilitation program in light of the upcoming 2027 general elections. TMA President Mustapha Mohammed made this accusation in a statement on Sunday, August 30, responding to Ugochinyere's criticism of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) regarding its handling of refinery revival efforts.

Ugochinyere expressed concerns about the NNPCL's failure to provide his committee with necessary information and indicated that the committee might invoke its constitutional powers if compliance was not met. Mohammed challenged Ugochinyere's credibility, referencing his previous support for former NNPCL chief Mele Kyari during a time when Nigeria's refineries were inactive.

He asserted that the NNPCL was adhering to legislation and emphasized that the rehabilitation process should be evaluated based on its outcomes rather than political rhetoric. Mohammed urged Ugochinyere to separate his oversight responsibilities from personal political ambitions.
