Yakubu Gowon University Names New Registrar and Librarian

Yakubu Gowon University has appointed Malam Alkasim Musa Umar as the substantive Registrar and Dr. Rose Lade Mommoh as the substantive University Librarian, effective July 10, 2026.

These appointments were approved during the 101st Governing Council meeting held on July 9-10, 2026, under the chairmanship of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso.

Both appointees will serve a single five-year term in accordance with the provisions of the University Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment) Act. Malam Umar, who previously served as Deputy Registrar for eight years, holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri.

Dr. Mommoh, who has 25 years of experience in university librarianship, holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Maiduguri and Bayero University Kano, respectively, and a PhD in Information Science from the University of Maiduguri.

She has been with the University of Abuja since 1999.
