PRP Denies Banditry Allegations Against Bauchi Candidate

The People's Redemption Party (PRP), through its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, issued a statement on Saturday rejecting allegations that its Bauchi governorship candidate, Senator Buba, is linked to banditry. The party characterized these allegations as “tissues of lies and unrestrained mischief” aimed at tarnishing the candidate's reputation due to his rising popularity and prospects for the 2027 Bauchi governorship election.

Initially, the PRP refrained from responding to these claims to avoid giving them undue publicity but has since decided to address them, asserting that there is a deliberate campaign against Senator Buba. The party challenged anyone with evidence of criminal activities involving the senator to present it to the relevant authorities.

The PRP cited Section 127(c) of the Electoral Act 2026, which criminalizes the publication of false statements about a candidate, carrying penalties of up to N200,000 or six months imprisonment. The party expressed confidence in Senator Buba, urging political rivals to compete fairly rather than resorting to defamatory tactics.
