PSC Promotes 93 Senior Police Officers in Major Restructure

On July 1, 2026, the Police Service Commission (PSC) in Abuja approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers. This includes elevating 13 Commissioners of Police (CP) to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and promoting 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) to Commissioners of Police.

The promotions were a result of successful performances in a recently concluded written examination and oral interview conducted by the PSC. Notable promotions include Itam Nnagh Obono from the Counter Terror Unit, Bassei Samuel Ewah from Plateau State Command, and Osagi John Agan Irabor from the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Lagos.

Additionally, 63 other senior officers advanced to higher ranks. The PSC also approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police and 33 Chief Superintendents of Police, with various officers benefiting from these advancements across different commands and units.
