Delta State Faces Fuel Shortages Amid Price Hike

Delta State is experiencing significant fuel shortages and long queues at filling stations due to a recent hike in fuel prices. As of Tuesday, the price of fuel has escalated to between N1,200 and N1,400 per liter, with some stations in Asaba and its surroundings selling fuel for N1,250 to N1,300 per liter.

This increase has resulted in higher intra-state transport fares, raising concerns about further price hikes. An official from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Delta State, who spoke anonymously, indicated that the rise in pump prices is not solely due to local market conditions but is influenced by decisions made by OPEC.

The official urged the federal government to intervene swiftly to ensure market access to fuel, as many filling stations have adjusted their prices following the latest developments. The situation has worsened since Monday, with reports of stations locking their gates and limiting fuel sales.
