Tinubu Administration Transforms Nigeria's Tertiary Education

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is enacting significant reforms in Nigeria's tertiary education system, which have been largely overlooked until now. A key initiative is the revival of the student loan scheme, providing interest-free loans to cover tuition and living expenses, which is expected to benefit hundreds of thousands of students by early 2026.

Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) is noted as one of the fastest-growing universities in Nigeria, currently serving over 3,500 students who are benefiting from this financial intervention. The administration has also invested significantly in infrastructure, channeling billions of naira through TETFund to improve facilities.

Additionally, the government is focusing on enhancing the quality of education and reducing the frequency of strikes by fostering dialogue with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). These reforms aim to make higher education more accessible and inclusive, moving away from reliance on privileged connections.
