NFSS Launches Search for Rabid Dogs After 18 Attacks

In Kano, a rabid dog has attacked and bitten 18 individuals, leading the Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) to initiate a search operation for the dog and two additional dogs suspected of being infected with rabies. The incident began when the dog attacked 11 people in Garko town, subsequently moving to neighboring communities where seven more were bitten in Raba, Kadage, Gurjiya, and Dausai.

The NFSS, through a statement from its Public Relations Officer, CSF Usman Abdullahi Umar, expressed concerns about the potential spread of rabies among animals and residents. Officers, led by Divisional Forest Officer Auwalu Muhammad, have been deployed to locate and neutralize the suspected infected dogs.

The NFSS has urged residents to remain vigilant, report stray animals showing signs of rabies, and seek immediate medical attention if bitten or exposed to potentially infected animals. The search will continue until the threat is controlled.
