NRC's Dr. Opeifa Advocates Transport Integration for Growth

Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the managing director and chief executive officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), called for stronger integration of rail, road, and maritime transportation to lower logistics costs and enhance trade in Nigeria. Speaking at the Transport Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN) conference, Opeifa stated that an efficient transport system is crucial for connecting producers to markets and improving the country's economic competitiveness.

He highlighted the significant role of rail transportation in this integration, noting its capacity to move large volumes of passengers and freight over long distances, which could alleviate pressure on highways and lower logistics costs. Opeifa also mentioned the NRC's focus on enhancing freight operations and connectivity with seaports and industrial centers.

He advocated for public-private partnerships to address infrastructure gaps and emphasized the importance of protecting railway infrastructure from vandalism. Opeifa concluded by stressing the need for affordable and accessible transportation services to improve mobility and access to opportunities.
