Ramsey Nouah Discusses AMVCA Loss Due to Social Media Impact
Veteran actor Ramsey Nouah disclosed that he has never won an Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Award (AMVCA) despite being a prominent figure in Nollywood. During an interview on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, which aired on October 3, 2026, he reflected on his 2011 nomination for Best Actor in a historical drama.
He noted that the voting system at the time, which relied heavily on public votes without a jury component, disadvantaged him and his fellow nominees, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) and Olu Jacobs. Nouah explained that the eventual winner had a stronger online presence, which played a crucial role in the outcome.
Although he has not secured an AMVCA for acting, he has achieved success as a director, winning Best Director at the 7th AMVCA in 2020 and again at the 8th AMVCA in 2022. He also addressed the division of Nollywood into "old" and "new," asserting that the industry is a continuous evolution.
