Atiku's Team Demands Apology from Wike Over Remarks

Atiku Abubakar's media team condemned Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for his "reckless" comments made during a media chat on Friday. Wike's remarks were directed at journalist Seun Okinbaloye, who had raised concerns about the leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike's statement, which was perceived as a threat, prompted Atiku's media office to issue a statement on Saturday in Abuja, led by Paul Ib. They described Wike's comments as dangerous and unacceptable, warning that such rhetoric undermines democratic values and threatens press freedom.

Wike later clarified that he did not intend to incite physical harm. His senior special assistant, Lere Olayinka, characterized the comments as hyperbolic and emphasized that Wike did not mean to suggest actual violence.

The media office called for an immediate and unconditional apology from Wike, urging the Tinubu administration to ensure the safety of journalists in Nigeria.
