Oluremi Tinubu Expands Food Banks to Healthcare Centers

On Wednesday, Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, announced plans to expand the Renew Hope Initiative's national food bank program to primary healthcare centers across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. This initiative aims to tackle child malnutrition by ensuring that malnourished children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers receive nutritional support and medical care.

During a meeting with the wives of state governors at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that no Nigerian child should go hungry. She urged state governors' wives to ensure vulnerable children receive adequate care.

The national food bank program was inaugurated in Abuja on February 17, 2026, and has already launched in the North East on April 27, with the North West and South West regions set to benefit next. The food banks will be located next to primary healthcare centers for easier access, and the program is implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, the Dangote Group, and the National Population Commission.

Tinubu also called for greater public support for the food bank initiative.
