Omokri Denies FBI Criminal Records on President Tinubu

Reno Omokri, Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, has denied claims that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) possesses criminal records on President Bola Tinubu. He described these reports as misleading and politically motivated, asserting that recent headlines claiming the FBI provided Tinubu's criminal files to US District Judge Howell Beryl are false.

Omokri investigated these claims himself during a trip to Chicago, Illinois, from September 18 to 20, 2022, while still a member of the opposition, and concluded that the allegations were baseless. He acknowledged that the FBI may have non-criminal files under Tinubu's name, which is common for individuals who have applied for US visas.

Omokri referenced a communication from February 3, 2003, when then Inspector General of Police Tafa Balogun sought FBI information on Tinubu, which resulted in a response indicating no criminal records. He urged the public to verify this with the US Embassy.
