DSS Suspends Sowore's Case Until After 2027 Elections

The Department of State Services (DSS) announced on Sunday that it would suspend the criminal prosecution of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), until after the 2027 presidential election. This decision was communicated by DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi.

During a press conference on Monday, Sowore's lead counsel, Olumide Fusika, SAN, criticized the DSS for not informing the defense team directly about the suspension, stating they learned about it through media publications. Fusika argued that the DSS's approach undermines legal practices and creates the impression that the agency controls court proceedings.

He suggested that the DSS should either withdraw the charges against Sowore or transfer the case to the office of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation. Fusika emphasized that the DSS's role is to ensure internal security and intelligence gathering, not to prosecute individuals for statements made against the President, as this could erode public trust in the institution.
