Lagos State's Fuel Consumption Surpasses 11 States Combined

According to data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Lagos State's petrol consumption in December 2025 reached 257.7 million liters, representing 13.04% of the total national supply of 1.97 billion liters. This figure surpasses the combined consumption of 11 states, which totaled 257.3 million liters, accounting for 13.02% of the national supply.

The states with the lowest consumption included Jigawa (13.4 million liters, 0.68%), Ebonyi (14.5 million liters, 0.73%), and Bayelsa (16.9 million liters, 0.86%). Ogun State followed Lagos with a consumption of 132.24 million liters (6.69%), and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) consumed 112.22 million liters (5.68%).

The analysis highlights the significant concentration of fuel consumption in Lagos, which, along with Ogun, FCT, Oyo, and Kano, accounted for 34.86% of the total petrol distributed nationwide.
