Five Fuel Vessels Arrive in Lagos Amid Supply Concerns

Five fuel vessels have arrived in Lagos, carrying a total of 95,000 metric tons of petrol and diesel, amid growing concerns regarding the stability of Nigeria's fuel supply. The vessels docked at Apapa and Tin Can Island ports between March 27 and March 29, 2026.

The vessel named Hudson arrived at the new oil jetty in Apapa on March 27 with 22,000 metric tons of petrol. Another vessel, Kingi, is expected to arrive with 15,000 metric tons of petrol.

The Nigerian government has lifted its ban on fuel imports and granted six new licenses for petrol importation to address supply concerns triggered by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The NMDPRA has confirmed the issuance of licenses for 180,000 metric tons of petrol to bridge the supply gap.

Despite recent improvements in domestic refining capacity, the latest approvals indicate that supply stability remains fragile.
