Reps Push for Increased Funding for Federal Character Commission

On Friday, during the budget defense session, Hon. Omidiran highlighted the need for stronger financial backing for the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to enable it to fulfill its constitutional mandate effectively. The FCC's spokesman, Ademola Lawrence, noted that inadequate funding continues to constrain the Commission's statutory activities, including nationwide compliance monitoring and auditing.

Hon. Omidiran emphasized the importance of equitable representation and the necessity for the FCC to engage with relevant government ministries and agencies to secure required funding. Hon. Ahm Idri Wase, the earlier chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character, expressed deep concern over the near-zero budgetary allocation to the FCC, stressing that financial inadequacies severely undermine its operational effectiveness.

He assured that the committee would work closely with the FCC's leadership to ensure that its budget reflects the magnitude of its mandate, advocating for realistic and sustainable financial support.
