Reps Threaten Arrest of FCT Council Bosses Over ₦100 Billion Audit Infractions

The House of Representatives' Public Account Committee has summoned the chairmen and financial directors of six Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area councils over alleged financial infractions exceeding ₦100 billion. The audit report by the Auditor General indicted the councils of Abaji, Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali for various financial irregularities.

These infractions included outstanding liabilities totaling ₦7.65 billion, improper accounting of expenditures, and inadequate asset management. The audit also highlighted issues such as under-remittance of taxes, failure to maintain updated fixed asset registers, and discrepancies in expenditure allocations.

The committee has given the council officials a final opportunity to appear and respond to the audit queries, warning of potential arrests if they fail to comply. The Chairman of the Public Account Committee emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in managing public funds, stressing that officials found culpable will be held accountable according to the law.
