Reps Investigate Metal Contamination in Food Processing

On Thursday, the House of Representatives raised alarms regarding the contamination of food with heavy metals due to the use of local grinding machines. This concern was prompted by a report from the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Osodi (FIIRO), which warned that the grinding process exposes users to harmful heavy metals.

The motion, led by member Wale Raji, highlighted that exposure to these contaminants could result in severe health issues, including cardiovascular diseases and organ failure. In response, the House resolved to initiate an investigation into the claims regarding the safety of food processed with these local machines.

A joint committee on healthcare services, industry, science, technology, and commerce was mandated to conduct the investigation and report back within six weeks.
