Gwagwalada Residents Demand Better Sports Facilities

Residents of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed the need for improved sports facilities, regular competitions, and greater investment in grassroots sports to foster youth development. In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on a Monday, they noted that despite the interest of many young people in sports, poor facilities, inadequate equipment, and limited opportunities were significant barriers to their participation.

Mr. Samuel Peter, a grassroots football coach, emphasized that talented youths have the passion and ability to excel but are constrained by inadequate facilities.

Grassroots footballer Mr. Obaletin Jude mentioned that rough playing conditions and insufficient equipment hinder skill development.

Another footballer, Mr. Alake Destiny, pointed out that irregular sporting activities are due to poor infrastructure.

Resident Mr. Adejoh Israel highlighted the popularity of various sports among youth, including football, volleyball, and basketball, while stressing the need for better-maintained facilities to prevent injuries and accommodate all interested players.
