Ogun Communities Form Vigilante Groups Amid Blackout Crisis

Residents of several communities in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State, have begun conducting night patrols to enhance security following an 11-month blackout caused by a faulty transformer. The blackout has severely affected local businesses and prompted community members to take action.

Joseph Olusoji, a resident, reported that the transformer malfunctioned about 11 months ago, and despite attempts to repair it, the situation remained unresolved. Consequently, landlords contributed N100,000 each to purchase a new transformer, but they now face a N12 million installation cost, which they cannot afford.

Abayomi Onashola confirmed the financial contributions and the ongoing need for assistance. The blackout has not only hindered business operations but has also raised security concerns, leading residents to rely on their own efforts for safety through organized night patrols.
