Kaduna State Faces Rising Mob Justice Incidents

The Kaduna State Police Command arrested six suspects involved in a mob lynching of two men mistaken for kidnappers in Maraban Jo, Igabi Local Government Area. The victims were attacked while riding a new motorcycle to visit a sick uncle, leading to their deaths despite some mob members recognizing them.

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned the incident as barbaric and unacceptable. This incident marks the second mob killing in the area within two weeks, raising public concern over a culture of impunity and insecurity.

On June 21, Malama Ummulkhairi Muhammad was similarly beaten to death by a mob based on false accusations of child kidnapping. Governor Uba Sani visited the bereaved families, pledging support and promising to prosecute everyone involved.

The rise of mob justice in Nigeria reflects a growing impatience with the legal system, where suspects are often judged and punished without due process, leading to fears of a lawless society.
