Gombe Court Sentences Five for Exhuming Corpse

On Friday, the Gombe High Court sentenced five men to various prison terms for exhuming a corpse from a graveyard in Gadam Village, Kwami Local Government Area, for alleged ritual purposes. Justice Abdulsalam Moham presided over the case, where the defendants, Isah Chindo, Kawuni Sarki, Manu Saleh, Umar Jibrin, and Daddi Adamu Nasiru, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including conspiracy, attempted felony, and unlawful entry into a graveyard.

The offenses were committed on September 11, 2025. The prosecution, led by state counsel Ahm Yakubu, detailed how the defendants conspired with two suspects, Aliyu Baka and Reuben Larg, to exhum the corpse of Malam Manu Wanzam, removing the body from its burial shroud and plucking two eyes for alleged ritualistic purposes.

The court sentenced the men to terms ranging from six months to two years and six months, with the sentences ordered to run consecutively. The case is set to continue on April 16, 2026, for remaining counts against the defendants.
