Rivers coy builds mall on Abuja site

A shopping mall is being constructed on a site in Utako District, Abuja, where the original allocation title was revoked by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Aliyu Modibbo Umar. The mall is being built by Hyper City Retails Limited, a chain of supermarkets from Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The company is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and has multiple branches in Rivers State. The land where the mall is being built was previously allocated for commercial purposes after a building collapse in 2008 that resulted in fatalities.

The FCT Director of Land Administration has not provided details on how Hyper City acquired the land, but construction is ongoing. The site has heavy-duty equipment and workers present, indicating that the project is advancing.

Residents and officials are concerned about the reallocation of the land and the lack of transparency in the process.
