King Ateke Tom Appointed Patron of Rivers NUJ Council

The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appointed King Ateke Tom as its new patron. The announcement was made by the NUJ Chairman, Paul Bazia, during a courtesy visit to King Tom's palace in Okrika Local Government Area on Tuesday.

This appointment follows a thorough search to replace the late patron, Chukuemeka Nnam Obi Ez, of the Ogba Union. King Tom was chosen due to his attributes, including his commitment to peace, good leadership style, cultural tourism promotion, and philanthropy.

Paul Bazia expressed the union's willingness to partner with the monarch to effectively disseminate information to the public and appealed for King Tom's assistance in actualizing an insurance scheme for NUJ members in Rivers State. King Ateke Tom accepted the patronage offer and promised to fulfill the requirements of the role.

He also reflected on the challenges faced by journalists during difficult times, emphasizing the importance of their work.
