Rivers School Appeals for Reopening After Tragic Death

Wisdom Gate International School, located in Elimgbo near Port Harcourt, is currently closed following the tragic death of two-year-old pupil Wynni Akaku on March 17. Her parents, Dr.

Iasuaka Akaku and Mr. Chinyer Akaku, have accused the school of negligence after a bookshelf fell on their daughter while she was asleep in the classroom.

In response to public outcry, the Rivers State government ordered the suspension of the school's academic activities until the circumstances surrounding the incident are fully addressed. Dr.

Peter Nwagor, the state commissioner for education, confirmed that the school will remain closed until the investigation is resolved. Parents and stakeholders have expressed concern over the impact of the closure on students' education and teachers' jobs, with Toyon Obikoya, the school's proprietress, pleading for empathy and understanding from the government.

The community is calling for justice for Wynni Akaku while emphasizing the need for children's education to continue.
