RMAFC and ALGON Strengthen Local Government Autonomy

RMAFC and ALGON Strengthen Local Government Autonomy

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has committed to strengthening its collaboration with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to enhance local government administration and fiscal autonomy. This commitment was expressed during a courtesy visit by RMAFC Federal Commissioners, led by Hon. Aliyu Abdulkadir, to Hon. (Engr.) Bello Lawal, the National President of ALGON, at the Association’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Hon. Abdulkadir, representing Nasarawa State and serving as Chairman of the State and Local Government Monitoring Committee, stated that the RMAFC is dedicated to ensuring the implementation of local government autonomy as recently affirmed by the Supreme Court. He urged local governments to improve their internally generated revenue and lessen their dependence on federal allocations.

Sen. Marafa Bashir Abba, Vice Chairman of the State and Local Government Monitoring Committee, noted that the engagement would foster ideas to improve collaboration with ALGON, particularly regarding local government elections. Hon. Bello Lawal welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that empowering local governments is crucial for national development.
