Dr. Rufai Hanga Resigns from Nigeria Democratic Congress

Dr. Rufai Hanga, who serves as the Deputy Senate Minority Whip and represents the Kano Central Senatorial District, officially resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in a letter dated August 3, 2026.

The resignation takes immediate effect and was addressed to the Chairman of the NDC in Dakata Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. In his letter, Hanga stated that his decision followed “careful reflection and personal deliberation,” and he expressed gratitude to the ward executive committee and party members for their support during his tenure.

Speculation surrounds his future political alignment, as he has been meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State and recently met with President Bola Tinubu alongside Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau. Hanga's resignation appears to be a strategic move as he considers pursuing other personal commitments and career paths.
