Sahara Group Launches Bunkering Operations in Mauritania

Sahara Group has initiated its bunkering operations in Mauritania after being awarded a 2026 bunker license by the Mauritanian government. This development is a significant step in strengthening Mauritania's position as a strategic maritime trade hub along the West African coast.

Bethel Obioma, Head of Corporate Communications at Sahara Group, announced the launch of the Sahara Charter, featuring a fully equipped 7,600 DWT bunker tanker currently positioned offshore Nouadhibou. The operations will supply ISO 8217:2022 compliant marine gasoil (MGO) and 0.50% low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) to vessels operating in Mauritanian waters.

Wale Ajibad, Executive Director at Sahara Group, emphasized that the new bunkering capacity will improve port competitiveness, vessel turnaround efficiency, and strengthen infrastructure to enable international trade. The operations are designed to enhance the interconnectivity of the maritime supply chain across West and North West Africa, providing compliant fuel closer to trade routes and improving logistical resilience.
