France Backs Moroccan Sovereignty Over Sahara Territory

On Wednesday, during a press briefing, French Minister of European Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot stated that the present and future of the Sahara territory lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. This statement followed discussions with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

Barrot reiterated France's support for Morocco's autonomy plan, which is based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797. He emphasized the importance of resuming direct talks among stakeholders regarding the autonomy plan.

Barrot also mentioned that France would expand its consular presence and cultural activities in the region, including opening a visa application center and inaugurating a new school in Laayoun. Additionally, he noted that French companies are investing in the Sahara, with the French Development Agency providing relevant support.
