SSANU's President Demands Salary Arrears from FG
Mr Mohammed Ibrahim, the National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), announced a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government regarding salary arrears. This announcement was made in a communique following the union’s 56th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, from September 30 to October 1.
The NEC demanded immediate payment of all outstanding arrears related to the implementation of the 2026 FGN/SSANU CONTTA salary structure, effective from January 1, 2026. Ibrahim stated that failure to meet these demands would lead to an indefinite strike without further notice.
Additionally, he called for the payment of two months’ salaries withheld during the 2022 industrial action and one-year arrears from previous salary increases. Ibrahim expressed concerns over the uneven implementation of the agreement in state-owned universities and urged state governments to provide necessary funding.
He also advocated for increased investment in university infrastructure and rejected virtual accreditation as a substitute for physical verification.
