ASUU SSU Threatens Strike Over Unpaid Entitlements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto State University (SSU) branch, has threatened to embark on industrial action if the Sokoto State Government does not settle outstanding entitlements owed to its members within two weeks. This ultimatum was issued following a congress meeting on September 8, 2026, which reviewed previous resolutions and assessed the government's commitment to addressing the non-payment issues.

ASUU-SSU Chairman, Bello Musa, PhD, and Secretary, Comrade Zulkallaini Shehu, noted that a meeting with the Ministry for Higher Education on September 7 resulted in a promise to address the union's demands. However, the union expressed skepticism due to the government's history of failing to honor agreements, including those made on March 4, 2024, and April 28, 2026.

Key demands include the complete implementation of the salary component of the ASUU/FGN Agreement 2025, payment of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), and remittance of third-party deductions. Failure to meet these demands will lead to disruptions in academic activities at the university.
