Ten Nigerian Governors Set to Exit in 2027 Elections

Nigeria is preparing for a significant political transition as ten governors are constitutionally barred from seeking re-election in 2027 after completing their second consecutive terms. These governors, first elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, will conclude their tenures on May 29, 2027.

Notable among them is Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has governed Lagos State since May 29, 2019, and will complete eight years in office. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State are also in the same situation, with their terms ending on the same date.

Other governors affected include AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State. Additionally, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, despite being in his first term, has withdrawn from the governorship primary for the upcoming election, which could lead to his exit in 2027.

The political landscape is already witnessing a surge of interest from various political figures vying for these gubernatorial positions.
