Lagos State Aims for 40% Food Self-Sufficiency by 2026

Lagos State is targeting a food self-sufficiency level of 40%, doubling its current level of about 20%. This initiative was announced by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat during the 2026 Eko World Food Day celebration in Ikeja.
The state's five-year Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap aims to enhance agricultural production, food processing, and distribution infrastructure. Hamzat emphasized the need for efficient food sourcing and reducing waste.
The government renewed its partnership with the BATN Foundation to improve farmers' livelihoods. Key interventions include developing a central food security and logistics hub at Ketu-Ereyun, mid-level agro-produce hubs, and last-mile distribution networks.
The first phase of the central hub is at an advanced stage, with additional hubs commissioned in Abijo and Dairy Farm. Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems Abisola Olusanya noted investments in various agricultural sectors.
The BATN Foundation reported improved livelihoods for over 4,000 smallholder farmers since 2019.
