Scavengers Vandalize Lagos Bridge, Risk Collapse

Unidentified scavengers have reportedly vandalized the concrete pillars supporting the bridge that links Alakija and FESTAC in Lagos State. They have broken the concrete to extract the embedded iron rods, raising concerns about the structural integrity of the bridge.

A video circulating on social media shows police officers clearing shanties erected beneath the bridge by these scavengers. An unidentified man in the video expressed alarm over the damage, stating that if the removal of iron rods continues, the bridge, constructed by the Federal Housing Authority approximately five years ago, could face imminent collapse.

He urged relevant authorities to intervene urgently to prevent further destruction, emphasizing the disturbing nature of such activities occurring in Lagos.
