SDP and Obidients Demand Electoral Reforms for 2027

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Obidient Movement have called for urgent electoral reforms in Nigeria before the 2027 general elections. This appeal was made during a dialogue commemorating the June 12 Democracy Anniversary, where stakeholders, including SDP National Chairman Prof.

Sadiq Umar and Obidient Movement National Coordinator Dr. Tanko Yunusa, participated.

They expressed concerns over declining public trust in the electoral process, particularly following President Bola Tinubu's signing of the amended Electoral Act in February 2022, which has faced controversy. The coalition's primary focus is to establish a credible electoral framework to ensure that the 2027 elections reflect the people's will.

They also highlighted the worsening insecurity and rising poverty in the country, urging the federal government to adopt modern technology for security and food production to address these challenges effectively. Dr.

Abayomi emphasized that democracy should be measured by the people's ability to freely choose their leaders, not merely by political party victories.
