SDP Resists Political Takeover Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Social Democratic Party (SDP), under the leadership of Secretary Olu Agunloy, has successfully resisted attempts by self-serving politicians to hijack the party. During the party's 2026 national convention, Agunloy stated that SDP has undergone significant reforms over the past four years to reclaim its ideological identity and restore its structure.

He described the SDP as Nigeria's second oldest surviving political party, firmly rooted in social justice and equity. Agunloy noted that the party has made legal strides, including a major court victory against the Independent National Electoral Commission for alleged unlawful interference in its internal affairs.

He announced that SDP is establishing model secretariat offices at local government and national levels to strengthen its nationwide structure and is preparing to contest various positions in the 2027 general elections, including state assembly and presidential positions.
