Senate Addresses Allegations of ₦68 Million Bribe

The Nigerian Senate has responded to allegations involving a ₦68 million bribe purportedly linked to Senator Oserem Christen Omofoma, a representative from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Businessman Nonso Okafor alleged that he was convinced in October 2024 to provide ₦100,000 to a senior legislative aide.

Okafor's lawyer, Elochukwu Obi, submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), requesting an investigation into the matter. The Senate has categorically rejected these claims, describing them as a false attempt to damage its image.

Senate Committee Chairman Yemi Adaramodu stated that there are no records of such a case and emphasized that the legislative body does not handle personal dealings of lawmakers outside their official duties. He reiterated that the Senate's focus remains on its core responsibilities, including legislative oversight and representation.
