Dickson Opposes Electoral Bill Targeting Opposition Parties

Senator Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, addressed the launch of the NDC digital membership registration portal in Abuja. He expressed strong opposition to the Electoral Bill, which he believes is designed to weaken emerging political parties and intimidate opposition, particularly newer ones.

Dickson stated that the bill, which criminalizes double registration, would not pass and described it as a meaningless legislative effort orchestrated to suppress opposition. He highlighted that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of association, allowing individuals to register and resign from political parties freely.

Dickson invited members to register with the NDC and urged opposition parties to prepare for the next general elections, emphasizing the importance of contesting under the Nigerian electoral system and the need for a referendum to assess party performance.
