Senator Ida Advocates 10-Year Tourism Reform Agenda

At the ninth edition of the Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exposition (NTIFE) 2026 and the 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026 of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) held in Abuja, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Ida, Chancellor of Umara Musa Yar’Adua University, urged the creation of a 10-year Tourism Reform Agenda. This agenda should include a tourism roadmap for Nigeria, the establishment of a National Tourism Marketing Council, and a Tourism Development Fund (TDF).

Ida stressed the urgency of transforming the tourism sector, which has been underperforming due to a lack of coordinated policies. He called for a shift in focus towards sustainability, community well-being, and technological innovation, similar to the successes seen in Nigeria's private airlines and Nollywood.

He recommended establishing a Tourism Investment One-Stop Shop in every state and urged the National Assembly to collaborate with the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority to create a harmonized Tourism Development Levy. Ida emphasized the necessity of implementing the National Tourism Policy established in 2017.
