Senator Hanga Confirms Defection to APC from Kwankwaso

Senator Rufa’i Hanga, representing Kano Central, met with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to discuss political developments in the state. This meeting marks a significant step as Hanga confirmed his defection from the faction led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The discussions highlighted the deteriorating relationship between Hanga and Kwankwaso, particularly after Hanga lost the primary for the Kano Central senatorial ticket and was overlooked for a deputy governorship position. The APC's national chairman, Professor Nentaw Yilwatda, reportedly urged Hanga to return to the party, amidst growing speculation about his formal joining.

Hanga's relationship with Kwankwaso has been strained, and despite his long-standing loyalty, he is now seen as aligning with the APC, which could lead to further divisions within the Kwankwasiyya movement. Salisu Maje Gwangwazo, the APC's vice chairman in Kano, expressed that Hanga was treated unfairly despite his years of loyalty to Kwankwaso.
