Gumi Defends Senator Buba Against Political Blackmail

Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi called on Nigerians to resist attempts to vilify Senator Shehu Umar Buba, stating that the Bauchi South senator should not be a victim of political blackmail. Gumi's remarks came amid renewed allegations linking Buba to banditry and terrorism, which he described as unfair and irresponsible.

Buba, the 2027 governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has faced accusations since 2024, including claims from a whistleblower, Hassan Saleh Hussein, and viral videos suggesting bandit leaders visited his residence. A fact-check by PRNigeria revealed that the videos contained unrelated footage.

Buba, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, has denied these allegations, labeling them as fabricated and politically motivated, particularly after his departure from the APC to join the PRP. He has initiated legal action in Nigeria and Niamey, Niger Republic, against the claims.
