SERAP Sues CCB Over Alleged Misconduct by Lawmakers

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has initiated legal action against the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in the Federal High Court Abuja, case number FHC/ABJ/CS/634/2026. The lawsuit, filed on a date not specified, alleges that the CCB has failed to investigate claims of abuse of office by certain lawmakers concerning amendments to the Electoral Act and a new tax reform law. SERAP is seeking a court order to compel the CCB to probe allegations that lawmakers improperly removed key provisions regarding electronic transmission of election results during the legislative process. Additionally, SERAP requests the court to direct the CCB to investigate claims that some lawmakers unlawfully altered aspects of the tax reform bill, leading to discrepancies between the version passed by the National Assembly and the one gazetted by the federal government. The organization emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability in public office, citing constitutional provisions that mandate public institutions to combat corruption and enforce ethical standards.
