Hundreds of PDP Members Join APC in Kwara Local Government

On Sunday, several members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Alapa/Onire/Odegiwa Ward in the Asa local government area of Kwara defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The decampees, numbering in the hundreds, were received during a ward meeting by Alhaji Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa, the chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, and Hon. Shittu Rukayat Motunrayo, a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, along with other party executives.

The defectors cited “mis-treatment of members, imposition and a poor reward system” as reasons for their departure from the PDP. They expressed that the APC offers visible achievements and better opportunities, particularly for the youth.

Alakawa welcomed the new members, stating that the APC is unified in its goals and that those who perform well are recognized as leaders within the party. He also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his contributions to the Asa Local Government and encouraged support for him in the upcoming Kwara Central Senatorial District election.

This development represents a setback for the PDP in Asa, as more members continue to resign and join the APC, strengthening its grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
