Shari’ah Council Defends Kwankwaso Against US Claims

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has defended Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in response to claims made in a recent bill in the United States Congress alleging "Christian genocide" in Nigeria. The council, through its Secretary Nafiu Baba Ahmad, condemned these allegations as false and dangerous, asserting that they misrepresent Nigeria's serious security challenges, which include terrorism, banditry, and organized crime.

The SCSN criticized the simplistic narrative of genocide, stating it could inflame tensions within Nigeria. They expressed concern that such legislative policies abroad are based on sensational and unreliable data, including media reports that lack a sufficient understanding of Nigeria's conflict dynamics.

The council argued that focusing on structural issues such as economic hardship and government failures is more critical than targeting individuals like Kwankwaso, who is part of Nigeria's political landscape. The SCSN called for a more nuanced understanding of the country's challenges rather than scapegoating specific individuals.
