Shettima Leads Nigeria's Delegation at UNGA 81 in New York

Vice-President Kashim Shettima returned to Abuja after leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States. He departed Abuja on September 20, 2026, with a mandate from President Bola Tinubu.

During the assembly, Shettima delivered Nigeria's National Statement, advocating for UN Security Council reform, including permanent African representation and enhanced global financing. He participated in the Third High-Level Roundtable of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group, where President Tinubu emphasized the need for African nations to focus on processing and value addition rather than raw mineral exports.

At a high-level education financing event co-hosted by Nigeria and Italy, Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to education as vital for national prosperity and supported the Global Partnership for Education’s $5 billion financing campaign. He also met with Nigerians in the Diaspora and engaged with the new leadership of the ECOWAS Commission and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J.
