Faishal Ibrahim Resigns as Singapore's Acting Minister

Faishal Ibrahim, the Acting Minister for Muslim Affairs in Singapore and a member of the People's Action Party (PAP), resigned following concerns regarding his interactions with a woman. This announcement was made after Prime Minister Lawrence Wong addressed the issue.

Although the police found no criminal offenses committed by either Faishal or the woman involved, the political climate has been tense due to recent scandals, including the investigation of Transport Minister Iswaran for corruption. Faishal has been a member of parliament since 2006 and expressed sadness over his departure from politics in a resignation letter published on the Prime Minister's office website.

The resignation comes in the wake of a broader scrutiny of the PAP's reputation, particularly after former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong acknowledged the damage caused by recent controversies. Iswaran has pleaded guilty to obstructing justice and accepting gifts worth $300,000, leading to a 12-month prison sentence.
