Ex-General Defends Nigerian Army Against Equipment Claims

Retired Major General Henri Ayoola, former commander of Operation Safe Haven, addressed claims made by former Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan, known as Soja Boi, regarding Nigerian soldiers purchasing their own military kits. Ayoola stated that such purchases do not signify a failure of the military system, asserting that soldiers often enhance their gear beyond standard issue as a personal choice.

He emphasized that every soldier is entitled to a baseline level of equipment, which is provided by the Nigerian Army. Ayoola acknowledged that operational realities sometimes affect equipment availability but maintained that the military system is functioning as intended.

He criticized the broader security challenges in Nigeria, arguing that they are often misunderstood and misrepresented, and called for a clearer definition of the problems to develop effective solutions. Ayoola highlighted the need for technological support in military operations to minimize vulnerabilities, particularly in ambush situations.
