Sokoto ADC Candidate Calls for CVR Extension Ahead of 2027

Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks to prevent mass disenfranchisement ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement from his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’iya urged eligible residents to register before the current deadline of July 26, 2026. He highlighted the significance of the Permanent Voter Card as a democratic tool and stressed the need for youth engagement in the electoral process.

Dan’iya noted that while INEC projected an addition of 10 million new voters, only about six million have registered thus far, indicating a need for more time. Despite his appeals, INEC has maintained that the CVR will conclude as scheduled.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Sokoto, Umar Garba, reported that 162,299 eligible voters were registered during the first phase of the exercise.
