Sokoto CP Urges Peaceful Campaigns Ahead of 2027 Elections

On a recent date, Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shafa, addressed political party leaders, warning them against violence, hate speech, and fake news as the 2027 elections approach. During the meeting, he urged parties to conduct peaceful campaigns and collaborate with security agencies to ensure credible elections.

Shafa outlined five key engagement areas: peaceful conduct, accountability, zero tolerance for violence, cooperation with security agencies, and recognition of security challenges in the state. He stressed that elections should be viewed as contests of ideas rather than battles.

Shafa warned party leaders that they would be held accountable for their supporters' actions, including youth groups and social media influencers. He also cautioned against the destruction of campaign materials and the use of private security during rallies, asserting that the Nigerian Police Force would enforce the Electoral Act 2022.

Political leaders were urged to protect voters, especially in areas affected by banditry. Haruna Adiya, Sokoto State APC Chairman, expressed the party's commitment to comply with election laws.
